In August, producer prices in the euro area and the EU declined by 0.1%




In August 2014, producer prices in the euro area (index PPI) declined by 0.1% compared to the previous month, when they were a decline of 0.2%, according to Eurostat data. In annual terms, prices in the last month fell 1.4% after falling 1.3% in July.


Dynamics of the first indicator coincided with forecasts of analysts surveyed by Bloomberg. In annual terms, the experts expected a decline of 1.2%.


In the 28 countries of the EU producer prices last month fell by 0.1% also. In annual terms, the drop was 1.5%.


Among the EU countries for which data are available, the largest decline in prices for the month was recorded in Denmark (-0.7%), Croatia (0.6%), Estonia (-0.5%) and Slovenia (-0.4 %). The greatest increase in prices was observed in Sweden (0.3%) and Hungary (0.2%).


In annual terms, the most producer prices decreased in Lithuania (-5.1%), Belgium (-4.7%) and Slovakia (-3.8%). Prices rose only in Romania (0.8%), Latvia and Sweden (0.3%). In the Czech Republic the prices have not changed.
