The UN Security Council will hold a meeting on the situation in Ukraine on October 24

The UN Security Council will hold a meeting on the situation in Ukraine on Friday, October 24, according to Tass. The highlight of the meeting promises to be a German intelligence data, released this week, according to which the Malaysian Boeing 777 was shot down by supporters of the “People’s Republic of Donetsk” (DNR). Also on the agenda are issues of the elections in the territories controlled by the separatists, and observance of the armistice (which, according to local residents, violate both sides).

Most likely, the meeting will be raised and the alleged use of cluster munitions by the Ukrainian army, which on Monday reported a human rights organization Human Right Watch (HRW). According to members of the organization, namely cassette bombardment Donetsk has caused the death of an employee of the International Red Cross Laurent Etienne. HRW representatives argue that documented 12 cases of the use of cluster bombs, which resulted in six people were killed and several dozen injured.

Recall rocket cluster munitions splits in the air for a few dozen small bombs that create a kind of airborne lead clouds , striking a large area. While in combat are commonly used cluster munitions against large clusters of armed manpower. The use of cluster bombs in urban environments can lead to a significant increase in “collateral damage”, as the one who produces the rocket has no control over where and how the bomb will explode.

The question of elections in the east of Ukraine can also take a significant part of the agenda of the meeting. On October 26, the country planned parliamentary elections, which, as already said the separatists will be boycottedin the territories under their control. In addition, on November 9, the so-called DNR will be held presidential elections of the breakaway republic, for participation in which three candidates have already registered. In the next “People’s Republic of Luhansk” (LC) will also be elections, registration of candidates is not over yet. At the same time, according to the president of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, he is ready to begin a dialogue with the separatists only if their representatives will be legitimized under Ukrainian law.

The armed conflict in eastern Ukraine continues from the beginning of April. As a result of the collision pro-Russian separatists with compounds of the Ukrainian army, according to the UN, killing nearly four thousand people, from one to one and a half million refugees. Much of the infrastructure destroyed areas beyond the control of Kiev, the area is experiencing a humanitarian catastrophe, according to Amnesty International . In an organization accused both sides of human rights violations, kidnapping, torture and premeditated murder as his opponents and civilians in regions where there is a conflict.
