In London died President of Zambia Michael Sata




In London, died Tuesday evening, President of Zambia Michael Sata Chilufya. The head of state has died in hospital of King Edward VII, where he was treated for an undisclosed illness, reports Reuters citing private Zambian media. Later, the government spokesman, confirmed the death of Zambia Michael Sata on October 28 in the UK capital, reports Reuters.


77-year-old Sata, as previously reported in a brief statement of the government, from October 19, was on treatment abroad, accompanied by his wife and family. Last week, the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the independence of Zambia led the Acting President Edgar Lungu.


The discussion in the press of health problems Michael Sata began in June, when he ceased to appear in public. Later it was reported that the head of state is being treated in Israel.


In late September, the Zambian leader missed a scheduled appearance at the UN General Assembly. It was reported that the President had received medical treatment in the hotel room where he was staying. Satu examined by doctors and the US State Department sent him to the hospital.


Michael Sata Chilufya was born in 1937, was elected president of Zambia in September 2011. Satan is the leader of the largest party in the country, “Patriotic Front”. In the 1990s, was part of the first opposition party – “Movement for Multiparty Democracy.”


Sata participated in the 2006 presidential election, but lost to his opponent Levy Mwanawasa. In 2008, Sata again took part in the election, another candidate was Rupiah Banda, who won. In 2011, Michael Sata still beat gangs in the next presidential elections, gaining a majority – 43%.
