Cyprus court has released Russian citizen Sergei Tuleneva who was arrested Oct. 5 on suspicion of possible involvement in the theft of paintings Impressionist Edgar Degas worth € 6 million.
RIA “Novosti” with reference to the Cypriot CNA agency reports that the court was not presented with evidence of guilt, which would allow to keep him in custody.
Theft of the painting “Dancer, correct shoe” was made on September 29, when the owner was not home – he had left the house to meet with Tyulenev and lawyers to discuss the transaction, which ultimately did not materialize. It is known that the Russians, along with two Cypriots a few days before the theft was in the house of 70-year-old collector, who was looking for buyers for the house and part of the collection. “Dancer” by Degas was not included on the list for sale.
Police announced Tuleneva wanted and published his photographs. Seal which has Cypriot citizenship, October 5, accompanied by the lawyer himself came to the police and was arrested a few days to determine the circumstances of the case.
At the moment the case involving three Cypriots. Criminal Court meeting is scheduled for November 27. They were charged with conspiracy to commit a crime, burglary and theft. Printouts of telephone conversations confirmed that they were in the house of the collector.
Painting “Dancer, correct shoe” size of 61 by 47 centimeters was written in 1870. The current owner of the picture got from her great-grandmother was a family heirloom.
