Voracious Lenovo: Sony Vaio on the queue

On Saturday, Japanese broadcaster NHK reported that Sony is looking for investors for his department computer manufacturing – Vaio and, in particular, talks on this subject with the Chinese manufacturer Lenovo. Companies can create a joint venture, which will go to the property business Vaio.


Sony later published on the site a bit of a rebuttal, but not directly deny the fact of negotiations: “The company continues to consider various options for the future of the business of producing desktop computers, but press reports about a possible alliance Sony and Lenovo are inaccurate.”


Sony has stated before that is going to revise the strategy development Vaio: this business is losing money, and is projected to remain the company planned unprofitable at least until April. Blame, of course, is rapidly gaining popularity tablets and smartphones.


Last week, reports Reuters, Moody’s downgraded Sony to “junk”: the Japanese have problems not only with laptops, but also with TVs, and the financial situation of the company, according to the agency, in the foreseeable future will not improve.


Lenovo meanwhile, although 80% of the company’s revenue also bring laptops, feels good. On this she announced the acquisition of Motorola by Google for $ 2.9 billion


Lenovo is among the three largest manufacturers of desktops and notebooks together with HP and Dell. The company’s revenue in 2013 was $ 33 billion, which is almost 15% more than in 2012. In January the company’s shares rose nearly 10% of the capitalization on 31 January – $ 13.9 billion in revenue in 2013, Sony was $ 90.7 billion, while the market capitalization fell to $ 16 billion (in January – by 8%, from June 2013 – more than a quarter.)
