UN on Monday will launch a mission to respond to the epidemic of Ebola




Advanced group of the UN Mission for emergency response to an outbreak of Ebola hemorrhagic fever (UNMEER), will be deployed to the victims of the disease in West Africa on Monday, September 22nd.This was announced on Friday, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon. The number of victims of flash exceeded 2,600 .


“I ordered the advanced team UNMEER deployed presence in the headquarters in Ghana, as well as in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone, to Monday, 22 September 2014,” – said the Secretary General. In Ghana, will be established transportation hub, where will arrive humanitarian aid for victims of the outbreak of the deadly disease states.


Ban Ki-moon said that the mission will be the basis for a “prompt, effective and concerted action needed to stop the epidemic, treatment of infected, provide necessary medical services, stabilize the situation and prevent the spread.” (Quoted by ITAR-TASS.)


In the near future will be appointed UN special envoy to lead the mission. At first, watching her work will be UN special coordinator for the fight against Ebola David Nabarro.


Plans to create the administrative head of the UN Special Mission announced on Thursday at a meeting of the Security Council of the world organization.During the meeting, a resolution was adopted calling to lift restrictions on transport links to the affected countries, which only undermine international efforts to respond to the epidemic.


On Friday the UN General Assembly unanimously adopted a resolution supporting the decision to establish UNMEER and urging countries-members of the organization to give her full support.


According to WHO, the number of victims BVVE in West African countries exceeded 2.6 thousand people, more than five thousand people have fallen ill.Virtually all cases of death and infection occur in three countries – Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea. Epidemic disease from which there is still no vaccine and drugs began in the region in December 2013.
