NASA plans to land rovers on the trampoline

In 2014 started very often talk about the exploration of Mars and the Moon. Although at first glance it is not very noticeable, but the scientists and engineers on both sides of the ocean once again inspired by the idea of space exploration. As a result – this is largely increased the number of new developments, or forced to return to unfinished old.

Back in the 60s, engineers from NASA were ready to make a real breakthrough in the field of designing unmanned spacecraft – probes, such as those that fell on the moon and are regularly sent from Earth to Mars.

In fact, a man on Mars is real, but there is a problem, and it lies not in the length of the flight, and in the weight of the ship. Too many percent of the total fall on only one fuel tanks and the fuel itself, the scope of which is incredibly strong increases with increasing capacity.

As a result, the ship with the colonists would have devoured as much fuel as the current development of energy engineers simply can not afford to use. To solve this problem could almost still in the 60s.

To do this, engineers have proposed to abandon the landing and brake motors and rely on parachutes and “safety cushion”, which should be disclosed under the ship at the time of the fall and soften the landing.

To implement this idea, engineers need a special material for the trampoline, which must have incredible strength, resistance to thermal stress, pressure, and of course be quite easy and mobile. Now NASA has several experimental projects like material of carbon fiber. Researchers have noted that while the trampoline is unable to do, but they received a number of samples of interest, which can be used not only for the production space.
