Sean Bean: "Stanislavsky system - a dangerous thing"

It seems that the hero Sean Bean once again in danger, but this time his head is not exactly spread on the peak. His new character, an FBI agent from the TV series Legends, launched on the channel TNT August 13, suffers from a unique personality disorder: it is difficult to separate his “I” from his many “legends”. Where are the boundaries of the individual? Where does a person begins his “legend”? One thing is for sure: this season hero Bean not going to die, but the other characters of the series will have hard times.

Let’s see what he thinks about his multifaceted actor hero Stanislavski system and how work is changing a person’s identity.

Have you read the book by Robert Littela, based on which to create the show. You like spy novels?

Yes, and I especially like the element of reincarnation. I get the opportunity to play more than one character, but a few. It’s not easy, but it is interesting. I like to do something neizbity, unusual, and “Legends” - just that kind of stuff. It’s not just another police story, in our project a lot of subtle psychological moments …

Your character is not even sure that he – Martin Odum? Sometimes he himself unwittingly, ceases to be itself and becomes one of his “Legends” …

And it seems to me, the most interesting. Instantly change the manner of speech – strange, weird. My hero confused one thing – just work undercover. Another thing – when strangers talk to you, and convincingly tell you – it’s not you. And reinforce it with facts! In the course of events, Martin more worried about what he hears from other people and that they are from him, as he seems to be hiding. In stealth he suspects even his own wife. Martin lives in a very strange world, when he was not working undercover, he can not figure out who he is. Through this, along with the hero and the audience goes, and I, as an actor, too, have to cope with this crisis.

In fact, your character – an actor, working on the Stanislavsky system?

That’s right! He really uses this method. Probably every person living under a false identity, sooner or later, think about how the Stanislavsky system helps to “get used to the role.” About how her supporters – actors like Daniel Day-Lewis or Gary Oldman - headlong plunge into the role. And Martin: it is important that he eats on what goes where he lives. For each of their “roles” he has a private car and housing. And in another way and it’s impossible. He has to deal with very dangerous people, so Martin himself must firmly believe that he is – he did not, but someone else. And, of course, it does not pass without a trace when he tries to get out of the way, his mind torn by conflicts. This happens with actors operating on the Stanislavski system: it can be difficult to once again become a, and sometimes it takes a lot of time, say months. Dangerous thing, as you know. Even for a spy.

You, as an actor, it is difficult given the output of the image?

I can not tell myself that I’m in exactly stick to the Stanislavsky system, but I always try to focus all their attention on the character being played. Else at this point it does not matter, while working, I forget everything. But when the shooting ends, I immediately get himself. So, we can say that I work in, but only partially. I will not deny the role of the part is not so easy. Sometimes, you come home, and the brain is still in full swing … I’m not complaining, but when a very long time pretending to someone else, it does not go unnoticed.
