Solar panels can "Earn money" lights

Cheap solar cells have shown the ability to emit light of a desired wavelength with good energy efficiency.

Scientists from Nanyang Technological University (Singapore) led by Jie Chien Sum ( Sum Tze Chien ) declare that they have developed perovskite next generation solar cells may have a dual purpose: to be a photocell in the afternoon and at night illuminated panel.

Perovskites is still considered a cheap substitute for silicon solar cells, are capable of work and lighting fixtures. (Illustration NTU.)

The discovery was made by accident because Singaporeans really want to get cheap solar panels. Perovskite base in mixing them going several solutions that react with each other at room temperature. Because of this, these solar cells is estimated to have cost five times less silicon panels.

In general, when determining the final characteristics of the product revealed that after laser irradiation, it starts to glow brightly. It’s quite unusual, as most of the materials for solar cell absorbs light, but bad radiates it. Here, according to scientists, there is a high potential for luminescence that the material it is possible to use as a component of new laser systems.

Well, slightly changing the chemical composition of the perovskite plate, it can be made to emit a different range to give a luminous panel of different colors. The idea is that it can be useful not only in luminaires, but also in a larger monitor.

Separately emphasized that the new perovskite material can be made as thin translucent plates that nothing prevents integrate into normal windowed window. And then in the afternoon it can be used for energy production, and in the dark – to illuminate the premises. Finally, and perhaps such a device would have made sense as a means of outdoor advertising lights.
