Renault is an innovative turbo

160 horses on the 1.6-liter and two turbines

Amid continuing problems with formulaic V6 Renault reports about the incredible success in the “civil” motor industry: the company has developed a diesel engine with a maximum power to volume ratio in its class. Through consistent use of two turbochargers 1.6-liter engine develops 160 hp. s. power and fantastic 380 Nm of torque.

Engine called Energy dCi 160 Twin Turbo is built on the experience of Renault in “Formula 1″. The first low inertia turbine is responsible for quick “grab” at low rpm, providing powerful acceleration: 90% rated torque are available at 1,500 rpm. The second turbine is included in the upper half of the rev range: it brings out 100 horsepower per liter volume and steady acceleration up to maximum engine speed.

Thus Renault sets a new benchmark for diesel turbo engine in the mass market. Recall hitherto leader of the 1.6-liter unit was a 136-hp from the Opel Astra CDTI with 320 Nm of torque in the range of 2000-2500 rev / min, behind him was 1.6 dCi 130 joint development of Renault-Nissan. It is worth noting that in addition to winning the new power consumes an average of 25% less fuel than its “classmates.”

Renault holds a secret until the scope of the new motor, insiders claim that it will receive the first next-generation Espace. And what model would like to see you with a new diesel engine?
