MacBook Air supports 4K displays with 60 Hertz

Although Apple says by 1600 pixels on the official support document from a maximum resolution of “only” 2560 ×, the new MacBook Air models yet seem to support 4K displays and even to be able to control with 60 Hertz.

ArsTechnica tested the beginning of March with updated Intel Broadwell chipset MacBook Air in conjunction with a 4K display from Dell (P2415Q). The 24-inch monitor could easily be selected in the system settings and operate with the native 4K resolution of 3840 × 2160 pixels. The display was (1.2 version) connected via display port on the MacBook Air.

It must be remembered that the graphics chip of the MacBook Air (Intel HD 6000) from a performance point is still not necessarily aligned on external 4K displays. Although the standard desktop operating largely worked well; for graphics-intensive actions, there was often too inroads into the frame rate – for example, it stutters when activating the full screen mode the app and when you invoke from Mission Control.

The fact that Apple does not mention the support 4K, a clerical error seems to be, and should have nothing to do with the occasional performance degradation in animation-intensive activities. Indeed, contrary to the MacBook Air emphasizes Apple for the new MacBook (with retina display) that appears in early April, the support of 4K displays -. It has the new MacBook with Intel HD 5300 a less powerful graphics unit than the MacBook Air is So exciting to see how well can handle the new MacBook with external 4K displays and whether there will be similar performance degradation as the MacBook Air.
