Eternal problem

Ancient people also suffered from atherosclerosis

Scientists from the University of Durham (UK) discovered that the skeletons found in the 750 km north of Khartoum (Sudan), traces of atherosclerosis. This writes The Telegraph. Atherosclerosis is characterized by consolidation and loss of elasticity of the arterial walls and is one of the main causes of diseases of the cardiovascular system. Moreover, nowadays it is one of the causes of death frequency.

Usually caused by a thickening of the artery walls is called smoking, obesity and high blood pressure, that is, the consequences of an unhealthy lifestyle and unbalanced diet. However, the new discovery shows that is not so simple. Obviously found skeletons age 3000 years belong to the people who were very far from the modern lifestyle. They lived in simple farming communities along the banks of the Nile in what is now Sudan. However, along with the bones preserved in the sands in good condition, and scientists have found traces of the so-called plaques that interfere with blood flow and probably caused thrombosis or stroke resulting in death.

In general, to find traces of atherosclerosis in such ancient skeleton is very difficult, so the history of the disease is known very little. But finding indicates that one of the causes of atherosclerosis, in addition to the abuse of junk food and poor lifestyle choices may also include inflammation, genetic predisposition, and the natural aging of the whole organism.

Recall that recently American scientists presented data showing from heart disease and cancer can protect oatmeal. Their research has helped to identify previously unknown advantage oatmeal: contained therein bioactive element avenanthramide able to stop leading to atherosclerosis formation of fat in the arteries, thereby effectively protecting heart attack and stroke.
