German engineering company EDAG in the last 40 years specializing in the design of vehicles for the leading automakers. At the recent 84th annual International Car Exhibition in Geneva, EDAG unveiled its new technology to create bodies that resembles the work of 3D-printer. Apparently, the German development promises a revolution in the automotive industry.
EDAG uses 3D-print for a long time, mainly to create layouts for the design, which greatly accelerates the process. However, the company’s engineers see a great future in the application of similar technology in serial production. All the secrets of technology were not disclosed, reported only that a process of layered carbon fiber deposition in a vacuum chamber.
Official press release EDAG says that car bodies obtained by “printing” in no way inferior to the traditional metal in strength and endurance, but considerably facilitate the overall weight of the car, including due to the lack of fasteners and small parts for assembly, as well as through opportunities to do many design hollow.
