Tim Cook: iPod - it's a dying business

It seems that the era of the legendary player, who once took an active part in the revival of Apple, comes to an end. At yesterday’s conference, devoted to the financial results of the company for the first quarter of fiscal 2014, Tim Cook named iPod «dying business.”

Indeed, the sale of these devices constantly declining since 2008, when they peaked. During the first quarter of 2014 only sold 6 million units. This, of course, does not mean that Apple very soon abandon sales iPod. It is even possible that this year we will be presented and new models (the last update was the appearance in September 2013 models, painted in the color “Space Gray”). However, any bets on this market in the company no longer do. Few people are interested today in a separate player, one versatile device which is preferable.

Meanwhile, the network has already expressed opinions as to which lines of iPod dies before all. The most likely candidate is called the iPod Classic, which has not been updated for more than four years. And it may well be that the baby would be the most enduring iPod shuffle, available as a player, which is convenient to use in sports.

However, cutting your iPod did not prevent the company to demonstrate excellent results, received $ 13.1 billion in net profit.
