Harvard University has created nanoprotsessor

Engineers and scientists from Harvard University and the MITRE Corporation company designed and built the world’s first programmable nanoprotsessor. According to Harvard University article about creating nanoprotsessora and its functioning is published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. Researchers designed processor called “Nanoelectronics machine with a finite number of states” or nanoFSM.

Feature of the project is “tiled” architecture whereby the final version of the processor is assembled from small nanoblocks with their own circuits. In practice, this architecture will collect larger computer systems of nanoblocks expanding capabilities of computers. Nanoprotsessor can be programmed to perform a sequence of simple arithmetic or logical operations.

According to MITRE Corporation, resulting in size nanoprotsessor get less nervous cells (3-130 micrometers). It consists of hundreds of tiny transistors in each of which ten thousand times thinner than a human hair. Transistors are non-volatile, highly energy-efficient and able to “remember” its state after a power outage.

According developers nanoprotsessory new perspective can be used to control various miniaturized systems, including various medical tools or robots, comparable in size to the insects. In addition, research on the development nanoprotsessorov can help overcome the limitations of Moore’s Law.
